TRASH & RECYCLING

THE FINAL YARD WASTE PICKUP OF 2014 is SATURDAY, DECEMBER 13.

Holiday Collection Schedule:

If your regular collection day is Monday and Christmas, New Years, Memorial, Independence, Labor, or Thanksgiving falls on Monday, then your trash/recycling will be collected the Saturday before the holiday.  If the holiday falls on a Thursday, trash/recycling collection will be done the Saturday after the holiday.

Refuse Collection Information & Guidelines:  
A.J. Blosenski will collect three (3) bulk items per house on the last pick up of each month.   CFCs must be removed from all refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers, air conditioners, and ice makers prior to pick-up.  Construction debris and auto parts cannot be accepted for collection.  Call 1-800-343-6583 if you have any questions!

A.J. Blosenski will collect contained household waste on  Mondays for residents west of Shady Grove Way and Thursdays for residents east of Shady Grove Way.   Neither electronic waste nor yard waste will be collected with regular trash pickup. 

Christmas Tree Pick up - Saturday, January 10, 2015,  Have curbside by 7 AM, completely undecorated, including tinsel, and not in a bag. 

Yard Waste:  The final pickup for 2014 is Saturday, December 13.

Leaves must be in biodegradable paper bags, and branches much be cut in 3ft. lengths, bundled and tied,  and placed at the curb by 7AM on the collection day.  Branches must be smaller than 3″ in diameter.  No rocks or logs will be taken.  Plastic bags will not be taken.

2015 Yard Waste collection dates are on Saturdays:  January 10, February 7, March 7, April 11, May 9, June 13, July 11, August 8, September 12, October 10, November 7, November 21, and December 12.  

Electronic Waste:

The Department of Environmental Protection no longer allows televisions, computers, or other electronic waste to be disposed of in the landfill.   

Best Buy will accept TV’s and other electronics at no charge, up to three items per household per day. Click here for details Best Buy.  Staples office supply  store also collects used electronics.  TV’s are not accepted.  For more information click here Staples.  

Medications & Prescription Drugs:

There is a Medication Return Collection Box in the lobby of the Westtown East Goshen Police Station, 1041 Wilmington Pike.  Residents can safely dispose of unwanted or expired prescription medication M-F from 8:30am to 4:30pm.

Tires and Used Motor Oil

Trade in your old tires when you buy new ones or take tires and used motor oil to an automotive station.  Call the Chester County Health Department Division of Solid Waste Management at 610.344.5937 for the location nearest you.

Recycling:

The Township provides a recycling bin for your use.  If you have a cracked bin, please bring it in to the Township Municipal building and we will replace it.  If you are moving, then please leave the bin for the new owner.

Item Recycled How to Prepare Items for Recycling
Glass—Green, Brown & Clear Bottles or Jars only. Rinse Clean. Remove lids and rings. Labels may be left on. NO plate glass, ceramics, drinking glasses, etc.
Plastics Must be marked with #1 through #7 inside triangle on bottom. Remove lids, rinse clean and flatten if possible. Labels may be left on. NO unmarked containers.  No antifreeze or motor oil containers.
Aluminum Beverage Cans Rinse clean. Cans may be flattened. No bottle or jar lids, no pie plates or aluminum foil. No other aluminum items.
Bi-Metal Cans Rinse clean. Cans may be flattened. Examples include pet food cans, soup cans, vegetable cans. NO cans with plastic parts. NO paint or aerosol cans.
Newspaper, Magazines, Phone Books & Cardboard Commingled in a brown paper bag or tied into bundles. Cereal boxes and similar cardboard items may be combined with newspaper. Cardboard must be cut in 3 foot squares, bundled with string and placed by the recycling bin.
Junk Mail & Office Paper Place in brown paper bag with above.

Regional Southeastern PA Household Hazardous Waste Collection Dates & Times – these dates are  from the County.  All collection times are from 9 A.M. – 3 P.M SHARP

Acceptable Materials
No more than 220 pounds or 25 gallons per household of cleaning and maintenance products that are labeled as toxic, flammable, ignitable, corrosive, reactive caution, warning, danger, hazardous.

Unacceptable Materials
Latex (water-based) paint, used motor oil, tires, medical waste, unidentified waste, commercial and industrial waste, explosives, ammunition and appliances. Air-dry or absorb latex paint and dispose with trash. Recycle motor oil, car batteries, tires and anti-freeze at your local service station.

Information for E-Waste collection:  Residential only – NO businesses.  The following will be accepted: CPU’s, laptop computers, computer monitors, printers, copiers (desktop & stand-alone), CRT Televisions and Non-CRT Televisions, Answering Machines, Camcorders, Cell Phones, Docking Stations, Electric Typewriters, Fax/Copy Machines/Duplicators, Microwaves, Pagers, Radios, Remote Controls, Gaming Consoles/Controllers, Stereo/Tape/CD Players, Telephones & Equipment, Toner/Ink Cartridges, VCR/DVD Players, Testing Equipment.
